While no one bit on the 10-foot letters that graced the outside of Yankee Stadium, bidding activity on a New York Mets bullpen car from the 1960s sold for more than four times its estimate. The vehicle sold for $112,500. The letters owned by none other than Reggie Jackson mustered no bids. A Sotheby’s official even tried to get a nibble toward the minimum of $300,000 by shouting out $280,000. Not a peep. Well, maybe a peep, but not a bid. Jackson even offered to fly to visit the winning bidder and pose with the letters at their new home. Uh . . . pass.
