NEW YORK — A source close to Christie’s auction says a collection of memorabilia from the late Frank Ceresi, a most passionate collector of vintage baseball memorabilia, founder of the National Pastime Museum and a very dear friend of Sweet Spot, comes to the auction block Oct. 19 and 20. The 485 lots in the sale include a bat used by “Shoeless” Joe Jackson.
The first part of the sale is devoted to sports memorabilia; part II focuses on photography. One of the strongest areas of the collection is Ceresi’s collection focused on Negro League memorabilia. Among items in the sale belonged to Josh Gibson, Oscar Charlestone and Larry Doby; also items and photographs showing the history of the Cuban Cigarrillos and items signed by Martin Dihigo and Roberto Clemente.
