Gene Tenace Series rings for sale in April

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — Gene Tenace 1972 World Series ring, MVP plaque and trophy come to the auction block April 8 in a sale organized by SCP Auctions. Tenace slugged four home runs, drove in nine runs and hit .348 in the seven-game series against Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine. He won three other world championship rings, including two as coach with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993. These items, among others, also will be available in the SCP sale.

Among other items in the sale are:

• A 1955 Eddie Mathews All-Star game-used, signed bat;

• Jim Brown’s rookie contract, signed, from 1957;

• Ollie Matson’s University of San Francisco game-used jersey from around 1951;

• Steve Carlton’s 1987 World Series ring with the Minnesota Twins;

• A Carlton game-used jersey from the 1967 St. Louis Cardinals;

• A game-used Willie Mays glove from 1957-’58; and

• Calvin Muhammad’s Super Bowl ring with the 1983 Los Angeles Raiders.
