Babe Ruth items hit market to help museum

BALTIMORE — Rare Babe Ruth items are hitting the marketplace with an auction that will benefit the Babe Ruth Museum here. The sale is being conducted by Goldin Auctions. A contract from 1920 about a barnstorming tour to Cuba, Ruth’s first foreign tour, is on the block as are more than 60 other items. Aruthphotomong them are:

  • An oversized photo signed by Lou Gehrig and Ruth and personalized to their batboy, also pictured;
  • A 1915 news service photo of a young Ruth;
  • Another 1915 photo of Ruth and his father in their Baltimore tavern, an image that is well-known;
  • A couple of Ruth game bats, one signed;
  • Autographed baseballs;
  • A 1915 World Series program from Ruth’s rookie season with Boston;
  • A bound volume of the San Francisco Chonicle from October 1927, including a report of Ruth’s 60th
    home run of that season
