$50K bid on Ruth HOF card short of reserve

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A rare, signed Babe Ruth Hall of Fame plaque postcard failed to sell through Huggins & Scott Auctions, despite reaching a bid of $50,000. The sale closed Aug. 3 and ended without reaching the reserve. Meanwhile, a Mel Ott from the ‘30s sold for $35,000. A World Series photo album with shots of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe Jackson (from 1919) sold for $22,250. The lot opened at $1,000 and attracted 66 bids, third highest in the auction. The next auction ends Nov. 2.
